Frequently asked questions
What does the instant check actually scan?
It loads one page — the URL you enter, normally your homepage — in a real headless browser and runs the axe-core accessibility engine plus our own keyboard/focus and text-quality checks against it. That is the same engine our paid deep scan uses, so the automated score you see here is the real score for that page, not an estimate. It scans a single page only; the full site stays behind a free account.
Is it really free, and do I need to sign up?
Yes, completely free and no signup. We do not ask for an email to show the result, and we do not store the scan. It is rate-limited to a handful of checks per hour per visitor to keep it available for everyone.
Why only one page? My site has dozens.
Accessibility law applies to your entire consumer-facing site, but a one-page instant check is the fastest way to see whether you have a problem at all. Real compliance work needs every distinct page type — checkout, booking, account, forms. That is what the free deep scan does after you create an account: it detects your page types and audits each one.
What is the score based on?
The automated score starts at 100 and subtracts weighted penalties for each rule that fails, by severity (critical, serious, moderate, minor). Any critical issue caps the score. It reflects only what can be detected automatically — roughly 30–40% of WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria — so a high score is necessary but not sufficient for full compliance. Manual review still matters.
The check said my site is blocking the scanner. Why?
Some sites use bot protection (Cloudflare challenges, aggressive WAF rules) that blocks automated browsers. When that happens we cannot load the page to scan it. A logged-in deep scan uses additional strategies and a different network path, so it is worth trying after signup.
